Neal McMillin (BA economics and Southern Studies with an environmental studies minor ’14), a graduate student at the University of Washington College of the Environment in Seattle, has been selected as a 2017 Knauss Fellow with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Sea Grant Program.
The one year paid fellowship matches highly qualified graduate students with “hosts” in the legislative and executive branch of government located in Washington, DC. McMillin said that his environmental studies experience was cited in application feedback for the fellowship.
As an undergraduate at the University of Mississippi, McMillin was a member of the Honors College, a Newman Scholar, and Barnard Scholar. He studied abroad twice, including as recipient of a Barksdale Award to investigate Scotland’s pioneering use of the ocean for renewable energy. Listed on the Chancellor’s Honor Roll, he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and the UM Hall of Fame and recipient of a Taylor Medal.
