Dr. Moen earned his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. He is associate professor of economics and chair of the economics department at the University of Mississippi. His current research covers re-estimating historical labor force participation rates for men sixty-five and older in the United States, but he also maintains research interests in banking panics in historical perspective and is working on a book on the Bank Panic of 1907. He also is a cellist in the Lafayette-Oxford-University Symphony Orchestra and plays golf when the value of his time permits.
